Why Hoodia from South Africa?

The Hoodia Gordonii plant has been consumed for thousands of years by the ‘San Bushmen’, a primitive tribe of the South African desert.  They would eat the cactus on the long journeys across the desert wilderness or hunting trips.  When eaten it gives the feeling of being full or not hungry.  The research has not shown any side effects.

What is ‘P57”?

Hoodia Gordonii, grown in South Africa is the kind of hoodia that has the appetite suppressant result.  The active ingredient that causes this astounding result is a molecule known as “P57”.  The research on this extract was carried out by the ‘Council for Scientific and Industrial Research’ or C.S.I.R..   The rights to ‘P57’ were sold to a British pharmaceutical company called Phytopharm.  Only they can extract the molecule called ‘P57’ for use in their products.  This is due to patent laws.  The whole native Hoodia Gordonii plant cannot be patented so other companies can and do produce products from this plant legally

The Story of Hoodia Gordonii

Hoodia gordonii (pronounced HOO-dee-ah) is also called hoodia, xhooba, khoba, Ghaap, hoodia cactus, and South African desert cactus. It’s actually not a true cactus at all, but rather is a succulent with sharp spines, that resembles a cactus.

Hoodia is causing quite a stir for its ability to suppress appetite, thereby promoting weight loss. The CBS television news program, 60 Minutes, and the British network, BBC have already featured stories about Hoodia.

Hoodia Gordonii can only be found in the semi-arid deserts of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and Angola. Hoodia grows

tips for boosting your energy

8 tips for boosting your energy level

by Gretchen Rubin, on Healthy Living

Feeling energetic is a key to feeling happy. Studies show that when you feel energetic, you feel much better about yourself. On the other hand, when you feel exhausted, tasks that would ordinarily make you happy—like putting up holiday decorations—make you feel overwhelmed and blue.So here are some tips for giving yourself an energy lift.

1. Exercise—even a quick ten-minute walk will increase your energy and boost your mood. This really works! Try it! Here are some tips to sticking to an exercise routine.

2. Listen to lively music.

3. Get enough sleep. If the alarm blasts you out of a sound sleep every morning, you’re not getting enough—and it matters.

4. For some people, taking a 10-30 minute nap is a big help. I can’t nap, myself, but my father has been known to take three naps in one day.

5. Act energetic. Research shows that when people move faster, their metabolism speeds up. Acting energetic will make you feel more energetic.

6. Talk to friends. I’ve noticed that if I’m feeling low, and then run into a friend on the street, I walk away feeling much more energetic. Reach out if you need a boost.

7. Get something done. Crossing a nagging chore off your to-do list provides a big rush of energy. For a huge surge, clean out a closet. You’ll be amazed at how great you feel afterward.

8. Do NOT use food. It’s tempting to reach for a carton of ice cream when you’re feeling listless, and you might feel inclined to give yourself a “treat,” but in the end, all those extra calories will just drag you down.

Energy (or lack of energy) is contagious. If you feel energetic, you’ll help the people around you feel energetic, too. And that makes them feel happier, too. In fact, studies show that being an energizer was one of the strongest predictors of a positive performance evaluation at work.

From Emergency food to diet product

From Emergency food to diet product, Hoodia Gordonii is the star.  A joint press release was issued by the South African San Council, and the CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in South Africa) in October 2004. Dr. Marthinus Horak, Bioprospecting Manager at the CSIR said, “The San’s knowledge has been tried and tested in the veld over thousands of years and is a precious source that has to be preserved for future generations. This agreement facilitates the linking of San knowledge and modern science in an endeavour to develop new products such as natural remedies.”

There are no known side effects. In fact, Tom Mangold, a BBC News correspondent, reported after eating Hoodia from the Kalahari Desert in May of 2003, “…The plant is said to have a feel-good, almost aphrodisiac quality, and I have to say we felt good, but more significantly, we did not even think about food.”

Hoodia Gordonii is one more of nature’s many gifts to people in need.

Author: NaturalWtLoss, 04 17th, 2009

hoodiagordoniiplusplant-hoodiastation.jpgIn recent years, the news has been dominated by stories regarding various weight loss methods. These methods range from surgery to diet supplements to effective exercise routines. One of the diet supplements that has received a particular amount of attention is Hoodia Gordonii Plus. It actually goes by several names and has also been advertised as xhooba, Hoodia, ghaap, khoba, and more. By whatever name or in whatever form, Hoodia can be understood as an appetite suppressant.

On today’s market, Hoodia is most often distributed in capsule form. The extract comes from a South African succulent. The plant closely resembles a cactus, but it is not technically part of that family. The dietary aid has received a lot of press from venues ranging from the BBC to 60 Minutes. In its natural form, Hoodia also appears in Namibia, Angola, and Botswana. Before it came to the US market, it was consumed by the African Bushmen in order to curb hunger on long desert hunting trips.
