Three Types of Diabetes: Type 1
Type 1 diabetes is when the body’s immune system has destroyed the insulin producing cells in the pancreas. The pancreas is the organ that produces insulin. About 5-10% of diabetics are type 1. This type has been called juvenile diabetes because it shows up from childhood to young adulthood. The treatment for type 1 diabetes may include multiple injection of insulin and weight control. Healthy eating, exercising, blood pressure control and cholesterol control are also important.
