Type 2 Diabetes, commonly known as adult onset is the most common. Over 90% of diabetes is type 2. In this type the body cells do not use the insulin correctly. The pancreas increases the amount of insulin it produces but eventually it cannot produce enough. Some of the risks factors are obesity, inactivity, heredity and increasing age. Race can also be a risk factor. Type 2 diabetes may be treated with diet, exercising regularly and controlling blood pressure as well as cholesterol. When medication is necessary there are many oral medications or insulin. There has been much research in the treatment of diabetes recently.
